Faculty Positions – National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA-TIFR)

The National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA), part of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Pune, has invited applications for faculty positions in the field of technology development relevant to radio astronomy. Selected candidates will join a leading national research institute and are expected to balance their roles between independent research and technical development/support work. The evaluation of applications will continue over a six-month window, allowing candidates to apply any time before 30th June 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

Education

• Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field.
• Must have a strong track record in developing technologies such as:
  • Instrumentation (hardware for telescopes, receivers, etc.)
  • Algorithms (data processing, signal processing)
  • Software (for control, monitoring, data analysis)

Experience

• Entry-level applicants are expected to have a few years of post-doctoral research.
• More experienced candidates may be considered for senior faculty levels.

Responsibilities

Faculty members are expected to:

• Spend 50% of their time on research activities (technological or astronomical).
• Spend 50% of their time on support activities, including:
  • Developing radio astronomy instrumentation/software/algorithms.
  • Teaching graduate courses.
  • Guiding M.Tech./Ph.D. students.
  • Participating in telescope commissioning and operations.

Salary

• Approx. INR 1,56,960/- to INR 1,70,460/- (entry-level monthly salary).
• Higher compensation may be offered based on experience and position level.

Age Limit

• Not specified. Subject to institutional norms for faculty appointments.
